This Game was created for the Progress@Play Competition 2024. In this competition, hosted by George Mason University Korea, middle school, high school, and university students from all over the globe can compete in creating art that makes people aware of social issues. In a team together with my peers and friends, we decided to create a game focused on the stress and pressure on Korean students. The game is a collection of mini-games which get progressively harder. For every second and every mistake the stress of the character increases. The idea behind the game was to make it very hard for the player to win and therefore show how hard the life of a Korean student is. In our team I took the position of lead programmer, planning all of the games and doing most of the coding. The roles of the other members included art and coming up with the main idea and theme.
Word Search
The first mini-game that we created was for the subject of English. The player needs to find the words in the raster. Finding a correct word reduces the stress level. Words can be found vertically, horizontally, and diagonally.
Puzzle
The second mini-game is a puzzle. The idea was that the main character's dog ripped the homework apart and we had to reassemble it. Putting a piece into the correct location lowers the stress level while putting it at the wrong long location will increase the stress.
Basketball
The next mini-game was for the subject of physical education. In this mini game, the player needs to throw the ball into the basket. Doing this three times will advance the player to the next stage.
Color Swap
The next fourth mini-game was for art class. We focused on an artistic and colorful game. In this game, the player doesn't get stress added after making a mistake, but rather he needs to start the mini-game from the beginning with the stress level continuing to rise.
Atom Hit
The next mini-game that we created was for science class. We tried to create a game that represents a model of an atom. The player needs to hit ten needles inside the core without touching another needle since this would result in the level resetting.
Flags Connect
Another mini-game that we created was for the theme of learning languages. In this game, the player needs to connect the flag with the correct word for hello.
Historic Memory
The last game that we created was a memory game with important historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln, King Sejong, Queen Elizabeth, Martin Luther King, and more. The player needs to match the pairs before the stress level reaches the max. Due to the difficulty of the previous games we as developers didn't expect the players to reach this point of the game.
